From what I've been told, the transmission is absolute trash, I think it might even be a 3 or 4 speed.

Its not a 2 speed powergilde so it must be ok. I would drive the heck out of it. I bet it would be an awesome road trip car (minus the bad fuel economy)

I just showed this to my boss (former general manager of Ferrari of Houston, Barrett Ferrari, and #2 at Risi Competizione). He said they were good cars but any drivetrain issue and the entire driveline has to be removed. Carbon fiber hood was $8000 back in 2000. They once ordered one for the owner of a dealer chain here that was a titanium grey with a emerald interior. He said it was absolutely bitchin!

yup, just like an Aston. Engine, giant tube/driveshaft, and the rear trans. Fun fact, when (not if) the wiper motor goes out on a DB9, you have to drop the driveline :] But yes, he said it is very good car for DD and very powerful.

This is actually on my short list of 'cars I'd get if I were to drop 50k on a car'. I hadn't heard about the transmission issues other folks are pointing out, so that's a bit worrying... But cmon! V12 Ferrari GT! Same engine and platform as the 550, and arguably better looking (though a bit detuned, but I've heard that makes the engine very reliable).

Why do loans take so long to pay off!?

I know you will say to sell the E46. But it's so damn useful. It's my fast and fun beater. It's so stealth cause de badged and old body style. And I can leave doge in it without freaking out about the damage he will do to the leather cause it's "just an ugly E46" as you would say
